History of International Women’s Day March 8

The history of March 8 begins with the struggle movement for the right to life of

American female textile workers at the end of the 19th century.

On August 3, 1857, textile workers rose up against their difficult and brutal working conditions in New York City.

Two years later, also in March, American female workers in textile companies formed the first union that was protected and won some rights.

Question 50 years later, on August 3, 1908, 15,000 women marched on the streets of New York, demanding higher wages, reduced working hours and an end to forcing children to work. Then, the American Socialist Party declared International Women’s Day to be February 28, 1909.

However, on August 3, 1910, at the Second International Women’s Conference held, 100 women delegates from 17 countries demanded the right to vote for women. The Conference Chairwoman, Mrs. Clara Zetkin, a German woman, proposed choosing an international women’s day to remember women who have struggled around the world.

The resolution conference decided to choose March 8 as International Women’s Day, the day of the women’s struggle group with the slogans: “8-hour working day”, “Equal employment”, “Protect mothers and children”.

Since then, March 8 every year has become a day of common struggle for working women around the world, praising the will of women all over the world to fight for national independence and democracy. , peace and social progress; for the happiness of women and children.
