Beast Mtawarira is one of the most well known and popular players to have ever laced up his boots for the Springboks,

with the powerful prop having featured in 117 Tests.

After heading into retirement after the successful 2019 World Cup, Mtawarira has continued to succeed away from the rugby field.

As part of his successful transition into the business world, Mtawarira is a shareholder in a major security company,

has his own international wine business, sits on the Sharks’ board and is involved in various other commercial work.

The passionate entrepreneur is also an ambassador for a host of leading brands, and is a sought-after guest speaker.

The globetrotter is often seen at iconic events around the world, recently appearing at the famed Monaco F1 Grand Prix for example, and he has now shared a special picture of him posing with famed American artist and entrepreneur Jay-Z.

Beast Mtawarira is represented by Roc Nation Sports International, the global talent agency that was founded by Jay-Z, with the former Springbok captioning the post with the words: “ROC FAM”.

In another recent association, Paper Planes – the lifestyle apparel and accessories brand founded by ‘Jay-Z’ – shared a video of Mtawarira visiting a store in New York.

At that time, a post on social media read as follows: “From South Africa to New York City, our dreams unite us. Across continents and cultures, the pursuit of greatness binds us together,” that social media

A man of the people

The 38-year-old is also involved in a number of philanthropic endeavours, having established The Beast Foundation, a community organisation that empowers young people through sports training, education, and skills development.

As part of the foundation’s work, he has overseen numerous coaching boot camps with young rugby players.

In 2022, Mtawarira was also appointed by UNICEF as a regional ambassador for eastern and southern Africa, and he has undertaken numerous outreach ventures in this role.

Recently, he also took part in a social justice walk, stating: “Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the World” these were the words echoed by the Great Nelson Mandela that emphasised the importance of educating our youth. I believe all youth from all walks of life deserve to have access to quality education despite their financial situation. This is why I took part in the Social Justice 16km Walk in Stellenbosch with the Maties students and greater community.
